WindRose PRO can read a
generic ASCII file which must be structurated as explained below.
- - Each record within the file must contain the same number of fields separated by tabs, or commas, or semicolons. Only a single separator must be present between two fields.
- - The file must have at least one header record containing the variable names. A second header record is optional, and might contain, for example, the unit of measure of the variables.
- - The data may include date and time, both in two separate fields or in the same field.
- - The file must have extension asc or vec.

Once specified the file structure, the user must click che
Continue button. The lower part of the mask will be activated, and the user will select the columns to be used for creating the windrose.
An example of ASCII meteorological input file is contained under the directory Sample of the installation path, and is called generic_sample.met. In order to load this file, the user must select:
- - Use date and time
- - Date and time in two distinct fields
- - Year month separator: Backslash
- - Hour minute separator: Colon
- - Date format: dd mm yyyy
- - Header records: 2
- - Fields separator: Tab
After loading the data, the total number of data and the total number of valid data, together with the percentage, appear in the lower right corner of the main mask. The number of valid data is determined using the
filtering options specified by the user.
